JELLYMAMA

Short Film (13min.) Finland.
Experimental/Fiction

A body emerges from a jellylike substance into a warped universe in which inside becomes outside and outside inside in an infinite loop. Ephemeral others appear and disappear, diving into, consuming and nourishing one another.

Jellymama pulls the viewer close beyond the comfortable. Onto the skin, the flesh, exploring secret portals of both body and psyche. With insisting intimacy and unruly playfulness it wants to allure, provoke, excite and repel it’s spectator evoking a direct physical response. Tenderness, awe, love and horror all fluctuate in Jellymama’s wet embrace.

  • Director
Hertta Kiiski is a visual artist based in Turku, Finland. Her practice unfolds within a framework of love, embracing the magical, mythical, and esoteric. While weaving fabulous realities, much of her work emerges from the everyday domestic sphere, often in collaboration with her daughters, dogs, and other more-than-human companions.
Her photographs, videos, textile works, and installations have been exhibited internationally in solo and group shows at museums, galleries, and festivals over the last 15 years. Kiiski has published three photobooks, the most recent of which, Otherworld (2023), was released by Kehrer Verlag. She earned her MFA from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2015, and she has been awarded various multi-year artistic work grants.

  • Choreographer

Karolina Ginman Helsinki-based dancer and choreographer. Through her artistic practice she tempts the psycho-sensuous poetic body to speak beyond reason, opening gateways for alternative universes to bloom straight from the subjective and collective preconscious. Her latest stage works include Fluvial (Zodiak - Centre for New Dance, 2022), Gräns/Hermes (dir. Slätis, Viirus GUEST, 2022), A Human Ensemble (Cirko - Centre for New Circus, 2020). Ginman frequently works with choreographers Elina Pirinen, Margrét Sara Guđjónsdottir and Mikko Niemistö, and is engaged in a long term artistic collaboration with actor-director Rasmus Slätis. Parallel to her artistic work, she has studied psychology at the University of Helsinki. During 2023-25 her work is supported by the 3 year Finnish state grant for artists.
